Florida Girls Giving Back donates $10,000 check to wife of Stoneman Douglas athletic director

PARKLAND, FLA. (WSVN) – A nonprofit group has donated a $10,000 check to the wife of Chris Hixon, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School athletic director killed in the Feb. 14 shooting.

Florida Girls Giving Back surprised Debbi Hixon with the large check on Tuesday. The group said they were moved by the tragedy and Chris Hixon’s act of heroism.

Hixon was a husband, father, veteran and coach. He is credited for attempting to disarm the active shooter and directing students to safety before he lost his life.

Florida Girls Giving Back hosted the fundraiser at Vibe in Las Olas to support the Hixon family’s needs.

“FGGB been an amazing learning experience for me but it has completely changed my view on volunteering in the community along with learning the steps needed to make a non-profit run effectively. Yes, joining FGGB will look extremely good for college however, I guarantee you will get more out of FGGB than a simple resume builder. Joining FGGB allows you an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone, collaborate with other likeminded ladies, plan & attend fundraisers, potentially hold a leadership position, and most importantly change the lives of others.”
